Event Schedules for 2008

The Los Altos Robotics scrimmage and tournament are being held at Blach Intermediate School. Last year we changed from two sites to one larger site. The events will be fast-paced to accomodate all the matches in an afternoon of exciting competition.

SCRIMMAGE:
Sunday October 26 at Blach Intermediate School

A scrimmage is a fun event where teams get together and run their robots against each other. At a scrimmage, the teams will be able to get an idea as to how well they are doing relative to other teams and benefit from a cross pollination of ideas. Because the Scrimmage happens half way through the season, most teams will only be able to run a few of the missions. They will also be able to continue working on their robots during the event. There will be up to 24 teams participating. Last year we switched to one large event instead of two smaller events. We are holding it in the Blach Multi-Purpose room at the front of the school. Here is the schedule for the scrimmage:

10:30 Room setup by advance party - competition and practice tables may be delivered from now till 12:30.
12:15 Volunteer check-in
12:30 Room upen to teams. Volunteer check-in continues. In order to assign pit areas, teams must check-in at the information table. They can then set up their pit area. The competition and practice tables are to be setup during this time.
1:00 Opening ceremonies � Presenting the colors and sing Star Spangled Banner.
1:05 Game description - Go over the rules for the benefit of both the spectators and the team members and give a description of how the scrimmage will work.
1:10 Team introductions.
1:20 Teams sign-up on the scoring board
1:25 Matches begin. We should be able to complete a 2.5 minute match and be ready for another match to start every 3-3.5 minutes. With three sets of competition tables, this will allow for 16 - 20 matches per hour. All teams should have plenty of opportunities to run their robots and to watch other teams.
2:35 Break. At the front at table A&B, we will have a Question&Answer session on the details of the missions and competition rules.
2:50 Matches resume.
4:00 The rounds end, award category winners are determined, and the certificates are completed. Teams can start to pull their materials together while this is being done.
4:15 Announce the winners.
4:25 Ask for volunteers to put on the November 23 Local Competition.
4:30 Thank volunteers and Blach Intermediate School. Take down the room.
5:00 Depart.
6:00 Tear down party closes building


TOURNAMENT - Local Competition
Sunday, November 23, at Blach Intermediate School

The tournament is where up to 24 teams will compete against each other and certificates will be given for the many different categories. Judges will be observing and speaking to each team during the tournament in classrooms at the school. Descriptions of the judging categories are in the FLL Team Manual and on the FLL website. Some of the participating teams will qualify to participate in the Northern California State competition and the rest of the teams will be finished with competing in the 2007 FLL season. Here is the schedule:
10:30 Room setup by advance party.
12:30 Team check-in. Competition and practice table setup. Teams set up their pit area.
1:00 Opening ceremonies
1:05 Introduction to FIRST and all the teams. Overview of the rules
1:20 Round A (60 minutes )
2:20 Round B (60 minutes and 10 minute break)
3:30 Round C (60 minutes) Judging is completed by the end of this round.
4:30 Break. (25 minutes) Demonstration by FIRST High School Robotics teams. Botball will be demonstrated continuously. Judges will meet and determine award catagory winners. Some teams may be called back for the judges to settle close ratings.
4:55 Robot demonstrations by best performing and note worthy robots.
5:10 Introductions of each team and presentation of participation award. Teams bring up their robots for the group photo. Certificates are prepared.
5:30 Presentation by team with best project.
5:40 Announce the winners
5:45 Ask for volunteers for next year. Thanks to the volunteers and Blach School.
5:50 Take down the room
6:00 Depart
6:30 Tear down squad closes the building.
